Roughly fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.
Police state they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The liquid had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.
Police then discovered multiple other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests suggest the liquid was likely human blood.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; authorities are presently not informed of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities announced they were working "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the public for tips.
A high-ranking official said the vandalism rendered him without words and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This incident hits the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on online, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a gunman targeting residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
